“As the Clinton Library approaches the first anniversary of its opening, the Friends of the Clinton Library have been honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Washington Library Friends and Trustees Association. The award will be presented at a luncheon April 6 in Spokane. The FOCL group raised more than $30,000 to get the library up and running. Projects included rummage sales, book sales and membership drives.I am so pleased that the Clinton Friends are being publicly recognized for all the hard work, time and energy that were devoted to building the library, and for continuing to support it now that it’s open, said Clinton librarian Debbie Colfer. The nomination was submitted by the Sno-Isle Regional Library System, which stated: Through the hard work of a very few dedicated Friends of the Library and the volunteer efforts of many, many individuals throughout the unincorporated township of Clinton, the dream of their own library has finally become a reality. The FOCL was founded in 1994 and worked closely with Sno-Isle, local businesses and the Island County Commissioners. They secured a parcel of land from the county parks department, and eventually added a manufactured building and all the utilities necessary to operate a public library. Volunteers did most of the work, including electrical, plumbing, painting, repairing the heating and air conditioning unit and laying the foundation. The library opened in March, 2000. “
