Red Sox beat Yankees in opener

“The South Whidbey Red Sox started the year off with an 11-1 win over the North Whidbey Yankees Saturday.The Sox, a team of 15- to 16-year-olds, were led by the pitching of Brandon Cobb who went five strong innings while striking out 9 and giving up only 1 hit. Ben Schultz closed out the game by serving up a ground ball hit to third base where Joe Green turned it into an around-the-horn double play to end the contest.Offensively, Michael Berry lived on base as he went 2 for 2 with two walks, 3 stolen bases and 4 runs scored. Eric Flister laid down two outstanding bunts, allowing Berry to score all the way from second both times. Cobb launched a tape measure shot over the left field wall, while Greene came up with the bases loaded and cleared the bags with a double. “
