Whirling dervish event at Thomas Berry

“Postnesshin Jelaluddin Loras will take part in a whirling dervish event on South Whidbey.Whirling Dervishes at Thomas BerryPostnesshin Jelaluddin Loras, a Mevlevi Dervish from Konya, Turkey, will be at Thomas Berry Hall at the Whidbey Institute on Thursday, May 10, to lead an evening of sacred dance, music and poetry. He will be joined by talented musicians and the Semazens (turners) of the Seattle group of the Mevlevi Order of America. This participatory event, open to all, is called a zikr in Turkish. Translated, it means remembrance of true being. It is part of the tradition of the whirling dervishes leading back more than 700 years to the poet and mystic, Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi.
