Elsie Juliette Gunderson Melver

Elsie Juliette Gunderson Melver, 82, of Greenbank, died May 30, 2003, in Coupeville.

She was born May 4, 1921, in Ballard, a daughter of George and Anne Marie Gunderson. She married Roald Andreas Melver.

The couple moved from Renton to Whidbey Island in 1978. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, and an alumna of Pacific Lutheran University.

She was a member of Deer Lagoon Grange, Daughters of Norway, Ballard High School Golden Beavers Reunion Group, was a Ham radio operator, and was known as “Grandma Elsie” to many people.

She is survived by her husband, Roald, of Greenbank; two sons, Ronald Allen Melver of Bend, Ore. and John Andrew Melver of Des Moines, Wash.; a sister, Dorothy Gunderson Anderson of Kirkland; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church; or the Deer Lagoon Grange.
