Robinson paces Falcons to perfection

A perfect game by a pitcher who, by the stats, already seemed to be perfect this season didn’t leave much room for an actual softball game Friday.

Pitching against Meridian Friday at home, junior Christie Robinson not only recorded her seventh shutout in a row this season, but kept the base paths completely empty, not giving up a single hit or walk in the 10-0 South Whidbey fastpitch victory.

This is the first perfect game for Robinson, who has 88 strikeouts over 45 innings this season for the 7-0 Falcons. In addition to that game, she has also recorded a no hitter, a one-hitter and three, two-hit games this season.

With the defense essentially taken care of between Robinson and catcher Carolann Lubach, the Falcons hammered the Trojans of f the field at South Whidbey High School with hitting. Behind a 3-for-4 , three RBI and two run performance by senior Bronwyn Russell, the Falcons ended the game early on the 10-run rule. The Falcons put together nine hits in the game and took advantage of three Meridian fielding miscues and a number of pass balls to win the game.

Russell also slammed three triples in the game.

Also powering the offense was junior Becky Gabelein, who was 3-for-4 with three runs.

The Falcons have outscored their opponents by a total of 54-0 this season. The team is on spring break this week and will compete next in a home game Tuesday against Mount Baker.
