Paul Barth

Paul Barth, 83, of Mundelein, Ill. and Langley, died Oct. 26, 2005.
He was born March 14, 1922 in Olean, Ind., the son of the Rev. H.A. and Clara Barth. Paul was a graduate of the Navy School of Music and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After the war he returned to Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in music. He taught music in public schools in Indiana before becoming a partner with his brother in a custom furniture business in Glenview, Ill. Paul continued his interest in music by directing several church choirs, teaching private brass students and performing both vocally and instrumentally. After his retirement, he worked at the Freemont Public Library in Mundelein. Seven years ago he and his wife began living on South Whidbey during the school year in order to be close to their grandchildren.
Paul is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 53 years; son, Joseph, of Mundelein; daughter Betsy Arand, her husband Paul, and their three children, Mark, Amy and Rachael, all of Langley; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Paul’s life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fellowship Hall, Langley United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of the Whidbey Island Jazz Society the Whidbey Island Waldorf School, or the Methodist Church.
