On Nov. 4, 2005 near Bayview, Bill Alexander passed away tragically while crossing the highway to check out his favorite cranberry patch.
He was born in Norfolk, Neb. on Aug. 1, 1923. Bill came to Whidbey Island in 1939 and graduated from Langley High School in 1942.
Bill’s first job out of high school was finishing concrete at the Naval Air Station in Oak Harbor. He continued working in the concrete business for over 40 years as a part-time job. Bill worked for 35 years as a ticket agent for the Washington State Ferries before retiring in 1982.
His loving family members he leaves behind include his wife, Mabel of 63 years; sons, Bill (Linda), Bob (Connie), Larry (Chris); and his brother, Don (Jeanette). Bill also leaves 6 grandchildren, Jeff (Paig), Jenny (Chuck), Craig (Amy), Wendi (Jeff), Traver (Kim), and Jolin; 10 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Hailey, Jeffrey, Ella, Conner, Karsen, Sierra, Sawyer, Seth and Simon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was a devout Christian and continually reminded everyone how truly blessed he and mom were to have such a wonderful and caring family.
A family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Clinton Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to either St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the Clinton Library.
