Lowell “Jake” Edward Jacobson joined our Father in Heaven Monday, November 21, 2005. He peacefully went to sleep in his chair at his home on Useless Bay.
He was born in Duluth, Minn. June 30, 1932 to Mabel and John Jacobson. He attended Oneioda Grade School and Denfield High School. He played organ at the Baptist church and piano and organ at a weekly program for a radio station in Duluth.
Jake was a semi-pro hockey and baseball player, he served in the Army First Airborne Division in Korea. He left Minnesota for the state of Washington in 1957.
He married Margie Mortland September 11, 1964, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. They had their home built on Useless Bay shortly thereafter.
One of the many highlights of his life was when he played the leading role of “Dudley Doo Right” in a play onboard the Delta Queen during one of their trips up the Mississippi.
He helped his grandson, Chad attain Eagle Scout, and he created the Finger Board games at the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club, which brought a great deal of fun and laughter to many members and competitors.
After 30 years at Bekins Moving and Storage in Seattle, and five years at Copeland Lumber in Freeland, Jake retired.
He was a life member of the Lynnwood Elks 2171, life member of the VFW 7482 in Clinton, member of American Legion Post 141, member of 40/8 Snohomish County 505, proprietary member of Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club, and member of Eagles Aerie 3418 South Whidbey.
Jake is survived by Margie, his loving partner of 40-plus years; son Mike and his family Kathleen, Michael Shawn and Garrett Dey; daughter Libby and spouse Larry; grandson (whom we raised and was an everlasting joy to Jake) Chad Jeffrey Jacobson and his family, Jackie, Jess, and Ali; grandson Cass Jay and his family Wendy, Dixie and Savana.
Jake enjoyed the love expressed by his many nieces and nephews.
Jake was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel; father, John; sisters, Bernice and Booty; and brother, John.
Remembrance services will be announced at a later date.
We were fortunate to have had Jake with us for 73 heart-warming, fun-filled years. Jake has touched so many of our lives with honesty, laughter and caring that it inspired us to carry that into our own lives. Whidbey Island has lost a true friend, husband, father and grandfather. God truly has blessed us with his soul!
