Sandy and Kristine DeMartini have been running the bakery on Second Street in Langley since November.

The ovens at the bakery on Second Street in Langley are baking again. The smell of warm cinnamon rolls and cookies fills the street.

DeMartini’s Bakery opened in mid-November. The Langley Village Bakery closed at the end of August and left a void in the city.

After more than a month of renovation work to the interior of the shop, Sandy DeMartini and daughter Kristine have reopened the bakery.

Customers can get freshly baked goods and pastries, cakes, bread and pies. Their bread pudding made with croissants is especially popular, Sandy DeMartini said.

They have a lunch menu that includes their signature croissant sandwich and daily changing grilled sandwiches. There are vegetarian options as well.

“Some of the products are the same as they used to be at the Village Bakery. Others are new,” DeMartini said.

Customers had requested donuts, so DeMartini has donuts in her selection. DeMartini also makes sugar-free cookies with diabetics in mind.

Among the daily fresh baked items available at the store are oven-warm baguettes and rustic country breads.

DeMartini also offers catering and packed lunches, which is good news for people needing help with their holiday parties.

“With the holidays, we do special orders,” Kristine DeMartini said.

The bakery offers coffee, but the mother-daughter team pointed out that they are not another espresso shop.

“It’s a bakery. We get up early and start baking,” Sandy DeMartini said.

DeMartini found herself back at the bakery 13 years after she worked there for the first time. Now the owner, she has a message for locals.

“We want our customers to know, we are here for them,” she said. “All of the things we offer is an offer from the heart.”
