Catherine Lucille (Hall) Read

Catherine “Katie” Lucille (Hall) Read was born April 15, 1923 in Silver City, N.M. and passed away peacefully on Dec. 15, 2006 at the age of 83.
Catherine grew up in Tacoma and Ballard area of Seattle. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish in Ballard.
Katie studied Nursing at Seattle University (then college) and in 1946 married Edwin Miles Read Jr. They moved to Longview to raise their family.
Katie was active in St. Rose Parish Alter Society and the Democratic Party. Katie served as Democratic County Chairwoman for Cowlitz County before moving to Morrilton, Ark. in 1965.
While in Arkansas she continued to be very active in politics becoming involved with the “Democrats for Rockefeller,” poll watching, served as Justice of the Peace, was a member of Kiwanis, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary and the Hospital Board.
She moved back to Washington state in 1993 when Ed retired. They made their home in Langley until moving to Enumclaw in 2002.
Catherine is preceded in death by husband Edwin, her infant son Mark and is survived by daughters Susan (Richard) Warwick and Rebecca (Douglas) Slater; sons Daniel (Caroline) and Peter (Dianne); brother Tom Hall; grandchildren Jennifer, Chris, Katie, Eryn, Michael and Adam and great-grandson Tyrone.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, with rosary and viewing held one-hour prior at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley.
A reception of fellowship will immediately follow in the Read Hall. Internment of cremains will be in 2007 at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Arkansas. Donations may be made in Catherine’s name to Alzheimer’s Research or The Nature Conservatory
