Stig George Johnson

Stig George Johnson, 84, died at Careage of Whidbey on March 15, 2008.
He was born April 2, 1923 in Njurunda, Sweden to Ernst C. and Anna M. (Erikkson) Johnson.
Stig was raised in Sweden. He joined the Swedish Navy Reserves for one year and then began to work his way to America. He arrived in Jamestown, N.Y., where he had family ties. He worked various jobs before deciding to enlist in the Air Force. Stig was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Allied Command and continued his service during the Korean War. His military career lasted more than
20 years and he retired as a master sergeant (E-7).
Following his career with the Air Force, Sig settled in the Seattle and Edmonds area, working for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He later moved to South Whidbey and began work in real estate, opening his own office, Marine Land Realty, in Freeland for many years. He was married to Sarah G. Jones in Reno, Nevada on Sept. 5, 1997.
Stig was very active in the community, with membership in the Boys & Girls Club, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine, South Whidbey Realtors Association, The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Freeland. He enjoyed fishing and visiting the casinos.
Stig is survived by his loving wife Sarah, of Oak Harbor; three children, Crispin S. Johnson of Spokane, Susan Palm of Redding, Pa. and Cindy Kostopoulos and husband George of Hampshire, Ill.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Stig Johnson requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family graveside services to be held at Linwood Cemetery, Pana, Ill. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
