It’s homecoming week at SWHS

Starting on Monday, South Whidbey High School students and staff will celebrate homecoming week with daily activities leading up to Friday’s football game and Saturday’s dance.

Monday, the dress-up theme is “Fake an Injury,” and at 6 p.m. there will be a boys volleyball game in Erickson Gym.

Tuesday is “Intergalactic Day” with an all-school barbecue at lunch time.

Wednesday is “Class Choice Day”; each class gets to choose its own unique dress-up theme. At 6 p.m. is the girls Powder Puff football game, followed by the traditional tug-of-war action on Waterman Field.

Thursday is “Blue-and-White Day” and features a pep assembly to get everyone in the mood for the big homecoming football game against Kings High School at 7 p.m. Friday.

The homecoming dance is 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Potluck to benefit Whidbey musician

A potluck and get-together for longtime Whidbey Island musician Randy Bradley will be held this weekend. The benefit is 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Freeland Hall.

There will be dancing and singing, and everyone is urged to bring musical instruments. Donations are welcome.

Bradley, a longtime Whidbey Island resident and musician, had a massive stroke and was hospitalized.

A special account was set up at Whidbey Island Bank for donations. Organizers said there have been expenses for rehab and other costs.

Donations can be made to the Randy Bradley Medical Fund at any Whidbey Island Bank in Clinton, Freeland or Langley.

Missing Soup Box banner is back

A South End mystery has been solved. The Soup Box Derby banner that went missing has been returned to the Langley Community Club.

The banner was placed on Maxwelton Road to point visitors to the annual event that took place Sept. 20. When the organizers came to pick it up, it was gone.

But after the person, who picked it up, read an account of the missing banner in The South Whidbey Record, the banner was returned.

“Someone wanted to help in the cleanup after the race was over and took the banner down,” said Tucker Stevens, one of the race organizers.

“They planned to return it at a later date. Now it has been returned to be used next year.”
