Democrat Helen Price Johnson continues to blaze the trail to becoming the first woman elected to the Island County Board of Commissioners.
In the latest vote tally released late Monday by the Island County elections office, Price Johnson continues to win over incumbent Republican Phil Bakke, 53 percent to 46 percent, in the race for the District 1 seat on the board.
Bakke was appointed to the board last year after longtime Commissioner Mike Shelton resigned. If Price Johnson is elected, she will take office as soon as the election is officially certified.
Price Johnson was ahead 16,734 to 14,783 in Wednesday’s count.
She had a lead of 2,066-vote lead on Election Night. Her lead has since fallen to 1,951 votes.
The next updated vote tally is expected late Thursday.
