Carl Stephen Henson, born Oct. 27, 1953 in Sanger, Calif., died Dec. 2, 2008.
He was a precocious child who was gifted with an exceptional memory that was a delight to his teachers. One teacher made history come alive for him and the Civil War, World War I and World War II were of special interest to him the rest of his life.
He served his country through the Navy aboard an aircraft carrier, which contributed to his interest in aircraft.
After his naval service, he was employed by Bell Helicopter and went to Iran to repair helicopters before the Iran-Iraq War. After his return to the U.S., he began his 25-plus year career with the Boeing Company and decided to settle on Whidbey Island.
His interests were many, and as a result he had an abundance of friends.
He was a member of the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club and the Eagles and was part of the honor guard with the American Legion.
He loved hunting, fishing, boating and riding the Harley he rebuilt. He rode his blue Harley in several parades, including the Maxwelton Parade and the Island County Fair Parade with his motorcycle group.
He is survived by his mother Betty Barnes (husband Ernie) and father Carl E. Henson (wife Josie) all from Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Karen Marrone (husband Vince) and Paula Reinhardt, niece Kristin Reinhardt, also from Fresno, and a nephew, Joshua Marrone of Langley.
