LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Lake logs are a safety issue

To the editor:

In reference to the recent letter from Janet Johnson regarding free floating logs in Goss Lake:

I, and many others, found the letter to be self-serving and, frankly, very sad. I did indeed see the logs and trash blocking the public boat launch. Her statement that “people launching boats are normally capable of pushing logs out of the way,” is both inconsiderate and irresponsible. Many fishermen on Goss are older and many are children. I applaud the efforts of a few who worked hard to benefit others and prevented potential injuries. Several of the logs were large and required equipment to remove.

She never stated why she preferred the logs with broken boards and nails and miscellaneous trash be left floating in the lake but I, for one, again thank the crew that cleaned up trash, boards and logs.

She did mention “modern building practices” so I assume she is referring to the recent shoreline building lot clearcut without a barrier, which currently has runoff into the lake. Is this her lot? Does she actually prefer logs, boards, trash and the runoff in our beautiful Goss Lake?

One more time, thank you to those who work to keep this public lake safe and enjoyable for all.
