Madness hits South Whidbey fundraiser

Pick-and-rolls, scoop layups and bank three-pointers will be abundant at the first ever five-on-five “March Madness” charity basketball tournament.
Eight nonprofits from Whidbey Island will field a team. Though only one squad will have five champions, all come out as winners. All profits from ticket sales will be divided among the groups.
Nonprofits fielding a team are Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund, Good Cheer, Goosefoot, Hearts & Hammers, Helping Hand, South Whidbey Commons, Rotary Club of South Whidbey and Ryan’s House for Youth. The tournament runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at the South Whidbey High School gym.
Each team has a chance to win a 50-50 cash prize, split with a ticket holder in the crowd.
Playing a round robin, double-elimination tournament allows each team two chances to stay in the game. Fans can support their favorite group and team by filling the bleachers and buying tickets for between-game prizes and a chance to win “Madness Money.”
Donations can be made online at fofmedicalsupportfund.org and click on the “Donate Online” button, or send a check to Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund, P.O. Box 812, Langley, WA 98260 by March 22.
Members of both South Whidbey High School girls and boys basketball programs and the eighth grade Langley Middle School team will provide clock and book assistance and announce. Concessions will be open at the high school, thanks to the SW High School Booster Club.
