Mo’s Pub in Langley plans loud, live music

Mo’s Pub and Eatery in Langley has eyes on a lively evening Memorial Day weekend.

The tavern on the edge of Langley’s downtown core was approved by city council to have a live band and amplified music from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

After months of working with the city’s planning advisory board on new ordinances to regulate noise, Langley City Council adopted a policy for lounges and restricted live, amplified music to six permitted nights and New Year’s Eve.

Mo’s Pub used one of its permits for Saint Patrick’s Day. No complaints were reported to Langley police, who were advised to drive by the bar on Second Street and listen for excessive noise. Owner Maureen Cooke reportedly contacted neighbors ahead of the live music, had doormen/bouncers and ended the evening early.

“I got zero complaints,” said Randy Heston, Langley’s police chief.

The Memorial Day weekend amplified music permit is Mo’s second of six possible permits this year. It was approved unanimously, 4-0, at the April 1 city council meeting. Councilman Doug Allderdice was absent on vacation.
