Finally, the Falcons were able to play a long-delayed rainout against the Lakewood Cougars, and it was worth the wait.
South Whidbey senior Colton Sterba pitched six innings of shutout baseball, allowing only two runs in a 6-2 win over Lakewood on April 15.
The Falcons took a quick lead in the first inning, followed by four runs in the second inning and the final run in the third. Falcon senior Nick Bennett went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.
South Whidbey’s game against Sultan on Wednesday was rained out twice and rescheduled for a doubleheader at South Whidbey High School on Friday, after The Record went to press.
