After winning only three of 12 games to start the season, the South Whidbey High School baseball team picked up its fourth consecutive win by defeating visiting Concrete 10-7 in a non-league game Monday, April 23.

The Falcons (4-8, 7-9) will try to move up the league standings as they close out the regular season with four Cascade Conference games. The first is a home game with Sultan at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 25.

The first four Falcon hitters reached base in the first inning, the first two scored and South Whidbey never trailed.

Alex Black started the contest with a single and Nick Young walked. Both scored on errors.

South Whidbey made it 7-0 with five runs in the second inning. Singles by Luke Rookstool, Black, Brent Batchelor and Ethan Petty mixed with two hit batters, Kody Newman and Drew Fry, produced the five-spot.

After the Lions scored twice in the top of the third, the Falcons countered with a run in the bottom half on singles by Taylor Brown and Young.

Concrete scored three in the fourth to cut the gap to 8-5.

In the fifth, singles by Hunter Bova and Kade Petty made it 9-5.

The Lions scored twice in the sixth, then South Whidbey finished the scoring with a run in its half on a double by Newman, an error and Fry’s base hit.

Nine Falcons finished with a hit in the game, eight coming from starters.
