Girl Scouts make emergency kits

South Whidbey just got better prepared for an emergency. On Aug. 29, Girl Scouts Taryn Henny, Parker Forsyth, Freja Heggenes and Abigail Ireland delivered 50 emergency preparedness starter kits to the Good Cheer Food Bank in Langley. The girls are from Troop 42183.
“The idea of these kits is to ensure that South Whidbey Island residents are equipped with needed supplies if a disaster were to strike,” said Parker Forsyth.
Inside all of the kits are flashlights, first-aid kits, water purification tablets, emergency blankets, dog or cat food, hand wipes, hand sanitizer, batteries, a can opener, granola bars, a bottle of water, and a calendar to help add to the kit each week.
These kits will be available to any Good Cheer client at the Good Cheer Food Bank.
The Girls Scouts, known as S.W.I.E.S.K., also produced a public service announcement with more information on the kits and supplies that should be in them. The PSA will air on Whidbey TV within the next few weeks between programs. The PSA and free emergency prep starter kits were developed to earn their Silver Award. The Silver Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting for Cadette level Girl Scouts.
If you would like to help, please donate supplies mentioned above to the Good Cheer Food Bank.
