Letter: Supporting fire chief, attracting firefighters are priorities

If you have received a ballot for the upcoming election, you will see that I am running for South Whidbey Fire/EMS Commissioner Position 2. My name is Mike Noblet, and my primary motivation for seeking the office is to build on the consistently high levels of service performed every day from Chief Rusty Palmer to the newest recruit.

As a commissioner, my priorities are to support Chief Palmer’s leadership, help search for a replacement when he retires, expand on attracting and retaining firefighters and EMTs, obtain funding to maintain and/or replace aging fire trucks, and explore with other local governments ways to make local housing affordable for our firefighters and EMTs.

A holder of a master of public administration, I offer South Whidbey Fire/EMS the benefit of my eight years as member of Bothell City Council and as mayor. A quick study, I will put my knowledge and experience to work to make certain that teh district has both staff and tools so that all jobs are done well and to the benefit of the district at large.

My wife and I have lived in the South Whidbey Fire/EMS District since 2004 where I served as board member and then president of my neighborhood homeowners’ association and now as chair of roads and grounds and the emergency preparedness committee. Public spirit has always been a way of life for me, so on Election Day I ask that you cast your vote for Mike Noblet for South Whidbey Fire/EMS commissioner Position 2.
