An Oak Harbor man is facing charges for allegedly driving his pickup truck into another vehicle and leaving the scene of the Aug. 18 accident, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Brandon Kenworthy in Island County Superior Court with vehicular assault and felony hit and run.

A report by an Oak Harbor police officer states that a a black truck struck a woman’s vehicle at the intersection of Southeast Eighth Avenue and Southeast Ely Street. The truck left the scene.

The woman suffered a cracked sternum in the collision.

An officer located a black truck with extensive front-end damage parked next to a nearby house. The officers identified Kenworthy as the suspected driver, the report states. He had keys to the truck in his pocket.

Kenworthy had “an obvious odor of intoxicants,” a flushed face and very slurred speech, the officer wrote. At the jail, he refused to give a breath sample for the breathalyzer.

If convicted of the charges against him, Kenworthy could face up to a year in jail.
