A 68-year-old Clinton woman has died as a result of an unusual car accident that happened two weeks ago.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Josette Hendrix was sitting in front of her vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Volt, for an unknown reason around 1 p.m. on March 25 when it rolled forward and trapped her underneath it. Trooper Jacob Kennett, a public information officer for the State Patrol, said responders arrived at a Fish Road location in Freeland to save the woman.
Kennett said Hendrix was extricated from underneath the vehicle and airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, where she was treated for serious injuries.
Although the State Patrol received an update from the hospital March 31 that she was in stable condition, she died a few days later. Medical records staff at the hospital confirmed that Hendrix passed away April 2.
Hendrix was known on South Whidbey as a farm owner and the founder of the Northwest Language & Cultural Center.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that first responders arriving at the scene initially thought the trapped woman had passed away.
