Letter: Patients should know name of supervising MDs

Editor,

I have been a patient at WhidbeyHealth for many years and am currently seen by a nurse practitioner, one of many I have seen over the years and found to be more than competent, but I recently was surprised to find the supervising MD was completely unknown to me. I assumed it to be someone whose name would be familiar and my question is why isn’t this information given to patients?

I frequently sign consents to treatment and have had no idea who I was consenting to. Is this even legal? It’s not that I have any objection. I’m just disturbed that WhidbeyHealth didn’t think I needed to know. I’d like to know. Maybe I’m the only one, but I doubt that.
