Realtors support local food bank

Todd M. Bitts, president of the Whidbey Island Association of Realtors and Jody LaBissoniere, former member of the WIAR Board of Directors presented a check for $1,481.64 recently to Jay Ryan, president of Good Cheer, and staff member Damian Cortez. The money was raised during the Realtor annual holiday brunch to support the good works of the Good Cheer Food Bank in Langley.

“We’re very proud to show this kind of community support to Good Cheer in this challenging economy,” Bitts said. “It’s amazing to me how many people in our community rely on the services of the food bank at Bayview.”

The 158 members of the Whidbey Island Association of Realtors has long supported the needs of members of the Whidbey Island community, and last year was no exception. Prior to 2007, the real estate community held a food drive to support Good Cheer. The group opted to raise cash in 2007 and 2008 to allow Good Cheer more flexibility in the way these funds are used.

The Good Cheer Food Bank is at 2812 Grimm Road in Langley, at the intersection of Bayview Road, and is open Monday through Saturday.
