The lease for the controversial cell tower on Port of South Whidbey property at Possession Point has been signed by AT&T, marking another step toward its erection.
Angie Mozer, port finance manager, said, “We got the signature on the lease — the next step until payment.” AT&T is facing the county permit gauntlet before it can start building the tower on top of a high bluff.
Tower opponent Clyde Monma, whose house is near the tower site, read a letter blasting the port and particularly board President Curt Gordon for “significant inconsistencies and misleading and false statement” allegedly made during the process. He asked for a written explanation and then left Tuesday’s meeting.
Gordon made no reply. A woman sitting in the audience commented about the tower, “I’m all for it, you can’t build it fast enough.”
