Langley mayor sets rough office hours

Published 2:22 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2013

After a few weeks on the job, Mayor Fred McCarthy set his office schedule.

The recently appointed mayor will take individual appointments Tuesday and Wednesday, business meetings Thursday and discuss projects and planning Friday.

Monday will be reserved for council business, as city council meetings occur the first and third Monday of each month, meeting with department supervisors and catching up on the weekend’s activities. His work hours will generally be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 5 p.m. each day with adjustments for night meetings and early morning appointments from time to time.

McCarthy, as Langley’s top administrator, also created a table to track city council issues. The chart will enable the mayor and city staff to prioritize issues raised by council members during meetings. The mayor said the schedule was set to optimize his time during the first few months and that adjustments will be made to accommodate citizen requests and individual time parameters. The job pays $53,532 annually, plus benefits.
