To the editor:
On Saturday evening, Dec. 5, in spite of frigid temperatures, a small group of Clinton residents gathered outside the community hall to light the newly planted Frasier fir tree. In spite of the weather, it was a warm and inviting gathering because of the efforts of several people.
Lynae Slinden of Island Framery initiated the community event by inviting local shop owners to join her in a collective holiday open house as she introduced Chris and Joy Dennis, the incoming new owners of Island Framery.
The Clinton Progressive Association — with help from volunteers, the South Whidbey Garden Club and the Whidbey Island Garden Tour — planted the tree and installed the necessary water and electrical infrastructure. They also adjusted their timeframes to coordinate with the shop owners’ extended hours.
Beverly Graham came on very short notice to lend her amazing voice and gracious spirit to the event, leading the assembled group in carol singing.
The Schlomanns, of Fern Ridge Alpacas, brought two of their Paca-deers (alpacas in reindeer antlers) to add a four-legged flair to the event, handing out candy canes.
The Clinton Chamber of Commerce provided candy canes and hot-spiced cider to warm body and soul.
Thank you, one and all, for your ongoing involvement in strengthening camaraderie and community in Clinton. Happy, happy holidays!
Sherryl Christie-Bierschenk
Chairwoman
Clinton Chamber of Commerce
