The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill two positions on the Noxious Weed Control Board.

The commissioners appoint Noxious Weed Control Board members for four-year terms, which may be renewed. The Noxious Weed Control Board consists of five voting members, one from each of five geographical areas that best represent the county’s interests. At least four of the voting members need to be engaged in the primary production of agricultural products. The board members do not receive a salary, but will be compensated for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties. Current openings are for:

District 3, from Race Road to Freeland.

District 4, from Freeland south to the end of Whidbey Island.

Duties as a member of the Noxious Weed Control Board include attending quarterly meetings, regulating the duties and direction of the Weed Control coordinator’s position and making decisions regarding noxious weed control efforts in Island County. All persons interested in applying should make a written application that includes the signature of at least 10 registered voters residing in the section supporting the nomination.
