Blockbuster will close its retail locations and stop its DVD by mail service, according to a press release issued Nov. 6.
Employees at the Oak Harbor location declined to comment on the announcement.
Blockbuster is a subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation.
By early January the company will close approximately 300 remaining stores and distribution centers.
The DVD by mail service will end mid-December. DISH retains the licensing rights to the Blockbuster brand and assets, such as the video library. It will still offer Blockbuster @Home to DISH customers.
Blockbuster will still exist as Blockbuster On Demand, which is its streaming video service.
