Island County Fire District 3 has unveiled a preliminary drawing of its proposed new central facility at Bayview.

The district has put up a sign on the 9.4-acre L-shaped parcel between Good Cheer Food Bank and Bayview School showing the proposed location of three new buildings, landscaping and parking areas.

Carletti Architects of Mount Vernon, designer of the project, is preparing detailed design concepts for the new facility. The drawings are expected to be available for the district commissioners’ next regular meeting on March 11.

Meanwhile, the district is continuing to pursue permits for the project, although no timetable for construction has been set.

For more than a decade, officials have envisioned a central facility that would serve residents of the district, which stretches from south of Greenbank to Clinton.

Rough estimates for the project have ranged from $4 million to $8 million.

Envisioned is a 10,000-square-foot, two-bay fire station, a 5,400-square-foot administration building and a 400-square-foot training tower.
