Island County Animal Control Officer Carol Barnes was honored for her long efforts on Whidbey and Camano islands this week with a special recognition awarded by Sheriff Mark Brown and the commissioners.

Barnes responded to 2,080 animal calls last year, including those concerning two dangerous dogs at Fort Ebey State Park. Park officials recently sent a letter praising her work on the highly publicized case. Brown said it was an extreme honor to have her on staff, saying, “There isn’t anybody better.” Likewise, Commissioner Helen Price Johnson said, “Certainly you deserve this recognition.”
