LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Library project moves forward

To the editor:

Friendship Force of Whidbey Island will have three members going to Vietnam in September to dedicate the Friendship Peace Library. Our group, with the help of Vancouver, B.C. Friendship Force, has raised money to build the library and pay the salary of the librarian for two years in Quang Tri Province. We will be writing book labels, planting trees, visiting school children and the English department students at the university.

We would like to thank the following businesses for their generous donations: ABC Yachts for pens, Basil Café for their fundraising dinners, Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens for their screen saver and photos of the gardens, Puget Sound Energy for pens and pencils, Sno-Isle Library for bookmarks, Whidbey Telecom for their blue 100-year service bags and Whidbey Island Bank for frisbees and tablets. Customs should be interesting! But the surprise on the students’ faces should be worth it all.

A world of friends is a world of peace. Thank you, South Whidbey, for your support.
