The photography of Samantha O’Brochta of Freeland will be featured in a display for Macy’s in downtown Seattle.

O’Brochta and other students in Garth Amundson’s photography classes at Western Washington University put together the display. The project explored creating commissioned work while simultaneously working in the fine-art realm.

Working with Macy’s visual manager Pierre Gour and using “flora” as a point of departure, three WWU photography classes collaborated in compiling

64 images within three panels that will be displayed permanently on the fourth floor of Seattle’s Macy’s flagship store.

O’Brochta, who worked as an intern at the Record in 2010, is about to finish her second year as a journalism major at WWU.
