Bert Lester Miller died peacefully at Sylvia’s Adult Family Home in Coupeville on Nov. 14, 2007, at the age of 92.
He was born in Seattle on June 5, 1915 to Edwin and Ruby (Eager) Miller. He was the third of four boys born to the Miller family.
Bert was raised in Woodinville and graduated from Bothell High School. While in school, he played baseball for the Bothell Cougars.
Bert was very active in his shop class and following graduation he joined his shop teacher and started working in the cabinet making business, which became his life’s work.
During World War II, he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company in the wood shop where he worked on a mockup of the landing gear for the B-17 Flying Fortress.
He was married to his wife Carol Miller on April 27, 1946. They lived in the same home in north Seattle for 45 years.
In 1951, Bert started a cabinet shop in Seattle’s University District. There he built custom cabinets until he retired in 1980 at age 65.
Bert purchased a summer home near Coupeville in 1970 and enjoyed his time on the Island. Carol died in May 2001, and he sold his home and moved to the Island to be near his son. Bert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Freeland.
Bert is survived by his son Robert S. Miller and wife Karen, both of Coupeville; by three grandchildren, Sarah Miller, MD, of Thornton, Colo.; Megan Miller and Emily Miller, both of Seattle, and by two cousins, Mary Jane Creger of Greenbank and Peggy Moore of Freeland.
Three brothers, Edwin, Vern and Earl preceded him in death.
Bert requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with memorial services to follow at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
