Douglas Dodge
Published March 9, 2011
Lt. Col. Douglas A. Dodge, USAF (Ret.), died unexpectedly on March 9, 2011 at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville. Born in 1922, he was 88 years old.
He is preceded in death by Margaret, his wife of 67 years; his daughter Suzanne Gilkey and all of his siblings.
After retiring from Boeing in 1984 he and Margaret moved to Freeland and into a house on Honeymoon Bay that they had built in anticipation of that day. After two careers, one in the Air Force and one with Boeing, they were ready to live their dream of travel, boating and golf tournaments. They did a fine job of just that, enjoying family and friends along the way. Now the party is over and the dream complete.
Doug is survived by a daughter, Dyanne Carithers of Ocean Springs, Miss.; granddaughter Lisa Martin (Gilkey) and her three children of Kirkland; and a granddaughter Kendra Lierer (Carithers) and her three children of Little Rock, Ark.
There will be no services but, please, remember him fondly as he joins many friends and family members in peaceful rest.
