Janetta (Jean) M. Grider passed away Feb. 24, 2009 at age 99 with family at her side.
Janetta was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on Aug. 1, 1909. She was the only child of Agnes and William Burnside.
As a child she moved to Greenbank in 1923, attended Coupeville schools and graduated in 1928. After graduation, Janetta moved to Seattle and became a nanny for a prominent family.
In 1938 Jean married Otto Grider and moved to Key West, Fla. After World War II ended Jean and Otto moved to Clinton where they lived for 24 years, later residing in Freeland.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Otto and stepson Don Grider.
Janetta’s greatest joy was her love of family in a kind and gentle way. She was a member of Langley Chapter of Eastern Star and received her 50-year pin. Her hobbies were gardening, for which she had a green thumb, and there was never a dog or cat that didn’t become her friend. Janetta was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball.
Janetta is survived by daughters Joan Handy, Greenbank; Judi Gordon (Wayne) of Spokane; grandchildren Cathy Hammond (Mark), Lynn Worthy, Scott Austin (friend Jane), Erin Mager (Greg); great-grandchildren Jared and Chelsea Hammond, Kendal, Samantha, Cougar Mager and Mitchel Worthy.
She will be missed by all those whose lives were intertwined.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the support of her many special friends, and Careage Retirement Center for their wonderful care.
Visser Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
