John Wesley Smith was the most remarkable man. Sadly, on Jan. 11, 2006, we lost him in a car accident.
John follows many loved ones into heaven: Mother Anna-May Jorgenson; father Arthur Smith; brothers Steve and Joe; sister Rachel; father-in-law Dick Read, and his best friend Bud Bryner.
He is survived by: wife Kate Smith; children Wes, Megan, Molly, Luke, Jennyrose, Laura and Jessie Smith; his son-in-law Justin Roseberry; Wes’ son Dillon; Wes’ wife Danielle and their children Ashley, Joey, and Amanda; and grandson Adrienne. Also, his brothers Jim, Tony, Phil, Dick, Bob, Barney and Patrick; John’s sisters Roberta, Vickie, Becky and Patty-Anne. There are also countless friends who will miss him greatly.
At nearly 60 years old, John had an amazing life. Above all, he loved his family, and John was always proud and supportive of us all. Over 100 individuals know him simply as “Uncle John.” Underneath his rough appearance was a heart of gold. His entire family looked to him for support, and no matter what the terms, he never once failed to be there. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness and honesty. One thing is sure: Everyday for the rest of our lives we will also think of his spirit, wisdom and sheer love for those around him.
A private family service was followed by an open memorial at the American Legion on Jan. 17, 2006.
