Marie Powell

Marie R. Powell began her final journey as she peacefully slipped away at her home on Whidbey Island.
Born in Wilmantic, Conn., March 28, 1938, to Raymond and Helen Andrychowski, Marie moved to Seattle in 1970.
A graduate of the University of Washington, she also received a master’s degree in public administration from Seattle University.
Initially, she taught public school and later gave 25 years of dedicated service to Seattle City Light where she retired as an administrative analyst.
Marie flourished in her retirement, serving as a board member for the League of Women Voters, the Island County Democrats, the Friends of the Langley Library, and the Baby Island Club. She was a generous supporter of charitable causes and a proud Democrat who worked tirelessly for peace and justice. Marie loved quilting, knitting, photography, and was an avid reader with broad interests.
Though an adventurous traveler, Marie settled in her adopted community of Langley in 2000. A treasured member of her Whidbey Shores neighborhood, she was a loyal friend and will be dearly missed by all who were privileged to know and love her.
Marie is survived by her mother, brothers John (Barbara) and Jim (Donna), and nieces and nephews, all in Connecticut. Her devoted cat, Charlie, also survives.
A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Baby Island Club, 3616 Saratoga Road. Please bring a potluck dish or beverage to share.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the League of Women Voters Scholarship Fund at LWVSWI, PO Box 414, Langley, WA 98260. Please specify in memory of Marie Powell.
