It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly loved and cherished John.
John T. Gough left us unexpectedly on Feb. 20, 2006 at the age of 82 while on a walk to the local grocery store. He was born in Seattle on Feb. 4, 1924 and was an alumni of Seattle Prep and Seattle University.
John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dr. E. Doris Gough.
Doris was a newly arrived physician from Munich, and they met in Seattle where he practiced as an engineer, and she a general practitioner. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby H. Stephens, of Burnaby, Canada, and his brother, James R. Gough, of Seattle. Survivors also include his devoted daughters, Dr. Frances M. Gough and Catherine E. Cesaro, M. Ed, and two honored sons-in-law, Dr. Anthony J. Robins and Wayne R. Cesaro, and by his grandchildren of whom he was most proud, Christina M. Minerich, Charles A. Robins and John Michael Robins.
John was a decorated Navy fighter pilot during World War II. He continued his interest in aviation as a private pilot, loved to travel, and was an avid historian. John’s lifelong ties to Whidbey Island began in the mid-1920s, when his family began spending summers on the island.
Before purchasing the family property on Columbia Beach in 1936, his family enjoyed fishing and boating in Glendale and Possession Beach.
A loving husband and dad, a friend to all, fair to a fault, he was always there when you needed him. He was a man you’d want by your side in peace or war, in times of plenty or times of hardship. John was truly a good man who will be deeply missed. Our loss is heaven’s gain. Take care old warrior. Take care and sleep in God’s loving arms.
Funeral Mass and Rosary have been held.
A remembrance party will take place in April; guests should contact the family for more details. Remembrances may be made to the American Legion, Post 160, 3618 S. W. Alaska St., Seattle, WA 98126.
