Leonard E. Enders

Leonard E. Enders, 83, passed away on Dec. 17, 2005, at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles,
Leonard was born March 12, 1922, to Alfred and Helen (Maxwell) Enders at Maxwelton Beach on Whidbey Island. Known as “Bull” in his earlier years, Len was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in his youth and later joined the Army Corps of Engineers, where he traveled the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, and came back to Washington to work for Foss Tug and Fiberboard Milland Raynaeer Mill. He also worked for Del Guzzi on landmarks such as the tunnels leading to Hurricane Ridge, Port Angeles. Len entered the Carpenters and Pile Drivers Local 1303 in 1947 and was a member for 50-plus years.
Len believed in going where the work was, and he helped build the first Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles, schools in Forks, a weather station in Neah Bay, and also homes in Corvallis, Ore.
He started his own business in 1966, Len Enders Builder, and built homes in Port Angeles, Seattle, Whidbey Island and Coyle, Wash. He started the Hadlock Development Partnership in 1978, retiring in 1990.
Leonard married Margaret Eaton on Sept. 2, 1947 and had a wonderful, rich, fulfilling marriage of 58 years.
Len had a gift for gardening and loved camping.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of Port Angeles; sons Len Enders Jr. of Hadlock and Ken Enders of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Margaret and Mel Grimm of Whidbey Island, Ann Enders of Hadlock, and Suzanne and Tom McGinitie Jr. of Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Junior and Dee Enders, Bill and wife Rose Enders, Norm and wife Margaret Enders; sisters Dorothy Erickson, Lenna and Chuck Hollinbough, sister-in-law Wanda Enders and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Helen Enders, brothers Fred and Dale, sister Jean Reed and brothers-in-law Forrest Reed and Keith Erickson.
He will be truly be missed by his family and friends. At Len’s request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
