Edna Leeds Schricker, 84, of Greenbank, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, (retired, USAF Col.) Karl J. Schricker.
She was born in Marlton, N.J. on May 22, 1924 to Ida and Willis Leeds.
Edna graduated from Haddonfield High School in New Jersey. Edna had numerous accomplishments during her lifetime. She became a surgical nurse studying in Arizona during the development of President Roosevelt’s programs to aid workers.
Edna worked for RCA, contracted to deploy sites for the BMEWS (Ballistic Missile Early Warning System). The system is still active today to defend the northern borders. In the early 1960s, Edna worked for Boeing, Huntsville, Ala., a contractor for the Saturn V rockets booster for the Apollo moon missions. Edna’s name, along with other Apollo project team members, is memorialized on a plaque on the moon.
Edna moved to Seattle in the early 1970s and started a real estate brokerage partnership.
Edna married Karl on Feb. 14, 1991. After a brief stay in Long Island, N.Y., they moved to their dearly loved Whidbey home in 1994.
Cooking was her great passion. She shared her “eat fresh, eat healthy” philosophy with the community through Greenbank Natural Foods at the local farmers market and the Highland Games. She loved gardening and growing peonies.
Edna is survived by three children, Jack Reyes (Nevada), Elizabeth Reyes (Greenbank) and Dana Curtis (Tennessee); five grandchildren, Adrienne Littleton (Seattle), Dawn Hayes (Tennessee), Christy Ford (Tennessee), Christina Reyes (New York) and J.P. Reyes (Colorado); four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Hazel and Oscar Ford (Tennessee) and Henry “Hank” Hayes (Tennessee); two step-children, Kristin Schricker (Greenbank) and Karl E. Schricker (Texas); and three step-grandchildren, Roxana Schricker (Connecticut), Claire and Jason Schricker (Texas).
Edna and Karl were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the church. A memorial service will be held in the spring. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the prayers, support and care for Edna throughout her illness.
Arrangements entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
