The couple moved to Anacortes in 1951 where Virginia lived until moving to Freeland in 2007. Virginia attended Skagit Valley College and was the valedictorian of her class. She then attended Western Washington University and earned a teaching certificate, graduating salutatorian of her class. She also earned a master’s degree in Psychology at Western. She taught high school English at Anacortes High School.

The family would like to thank the staff of Whidbey General Hospital who helped make her final journey peaceful. Special thanks also go to Dr. John Oakland, the nursing staff in ICU and the caring staff of Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Freeland.
Virginia did not wish to have a public memorial gathering, and asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a charity of the sender’s choice in her honor.
