Evelyn A. Agren

Evelyn A. Agren, 83, of Clinton, died peacefully June 6, 2002, at Overlake Hospital surrounded by family, following a short battle with leukemia.

She was born June 5, 1919, in Newcastle, to Charles and Augusta Swanson, Swedish immigrants. Her family moved to Kennydale in 1921, and she lived there until retiring to Whidbey Island.

Evelyn graduated from Renton High School in 1937 and then attended business college. She worked as a bookkeeper at Laurel Beach Sanitarium from 1938 to 1942, and then as a medical secretary. She and Curt Agren were married Dec. 5, 1947. She worked as a secretary at Pan-Abode Homes in Renton for more than 20 years prior to her retirement in 1975.

For the past 26 years she lived at Possession Shores, where she enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, walking and spending time with her grandchildren. During their retirement, she and Curt made trips to Sweden, Hawaii, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She particularly enjoyed baking, supplying her family, friends and neighbors with her delicious baked goods. Evelyn enjoyed talking to people and made many friends wherever she went. She was a member of the Swedish Club and the Bayview Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curt, in 2000.

She is survived by daughters Susan (Brian) Miller of Kennydale, Janet (Keith) Lankester of Newcastle, and a stepdaughter, Judy Jones of Kirkland. She was a special “MorMor” to Erik and Kevin (Ani) Miller, Curt and Jamie Lankester, and Bob and Lisa Jones. She is also survived by two sisters, Medora Nelson and Emmy Lindberg of Renton; 15 nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

A special thank you to Dr. Walter Smith and the nursing staff on 3 West at Overlake Hospital for their care, support and compassion.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at noon June 22 at the Bayview Senior Center, 14594 Highway 525, near Langley. The family suggests memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Senior Services of Island County at Bayview, or a charity of your choice.
