South Whidbey goes unbeaten in conference play / Tennis

Two home wins this week helped the South Whidbey High School tennis team complete a sweep of its league foes and finish atop the Cascade Conference standings.

The Falcons (6-0, 10-1) defeated Granite Falls 6-1 Tuesday, May 1, and King’s 4-1 Wednesday, May 2.

South Whidbey has two non-league matches remaining in the regular season: 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Friday Harbor (0-5) and 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at home with Seattle Academy.

The district tournament will be played at South Whidbey High School at noon Thursday, May 10.

South Whidbey 6, Granite Falls 1

Singles: 1, Mary Zisette won 6-0, 6-3; 2, Alison Papritz won 6-1, 6-3; 3, Ally Lynch lost 7-6(7-4), 6-1; 4, Elizabeth Simmons won 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles: 1, Farris Jokinen/Ainsley Nelson won 7-6(7-3), 6-4; 2, Robynn Maciel/McKenna Kelley won 6-4, 7-6(9-7); 3, Oliana Stange/Ashley Ricketts won 6-1, 6-4.

Singles: 1, Zisette lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-1; 2, Papritz won 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles: 1, Jokinen/Nelson won 6-0, 6-1; 2, Maciel/Ricketts won 6-0, 6-1; 3, Lynch/Kelley won 6-0, 6-1.
