Letter: Farm’s dog park should continue as one of best

Editor,

I was thrilled to read reporter Laura Guido’s article about the Greenbank Farm meeting that took place Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Dog owners showed up for the meeting and defended this fantastic off-leash dog park.

Whidbey Island is remarkable with thousands of beautiful parkland acres already reserved for humans, but only Greenbank Farm and Useless Bay — when the tide is out — are of any size that allow a dog to really run. A quick review of the 50 Best Off-Leash Dog Parks in the Nation confirmed my suspicions. Greenbank Farm deserves to be near the very top of that list.

The Port of Coupeville concluded at the meeting that some additional fencing for the existing northeastern farming area was needed.

That fencing plus the ongoing attention of responsible dog handlers will allow Greenbank Farm to continue as one of the best dog parks in the country.
