Sharon Ann Stephenson
March 25, 1944 – September 20, 2021
Sharon Stephenson passed away on September 20, 2021 from complications due to kidney disease and a stroke she had suffered a few weeks earlier.
She was the second of five children born to Palmer Berg and Marletta Berg (Schumacher) on March 25, 1944.
The early years of her life were spent on Maple Street in Everett, WA where she met her lifelong friends Lilly May Cruzen (Fisher) and Lynda Wiseman (Ogilve).
She met Aron Robert Stephenson Jr. of Mukilteo and they were married in 1965. They quickly had four children and began raising their family in Arlington, WA but moved to Whidbey Island in 1973 living mostly in the Clinton area.
She was a Track Mom and loved to watch her children participate in cross country and track at South Whidbey High School. Most vacations were spent camping with family on the Washington coast and Skykomish River. In her later years it became a custom to visit Aron’s relatives in North Carolina and she greatly anticipated the trip every spring, even after Aron passed in 2014. Quilting and embroidery were her hobbies and she loved making things for people that she knew.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her eleven grandchildren and her beloved nieces and nephews. For over 20 years, almost without fail, there would be a family reunion on Whidbey Island that was the highlight of the year for her. This year it was held in Sunriver, OR where she was able to see all her kids and nearly every grandchild just one week before her stroke.
She is survived by her four children: Aron “Steve” Stephenson (Kristen), Timothy Stephenson (Joanne), Barbara Ann Clausen (Doug), Sharon Fenton (Dean), and her eleven grandchildren: Timothy Clausen, Amanda Kracht (Josh), Katie Clausen, Karina Stephenson, Calvin Stephenson, Connor Stephenson, Megan Ritter (Brandon), Melanie Stephenson, Andrew “Mitch” Stephenson, Stevie Ann Fenton, and Jack Fenton. She is also survived by her two sisters: Barbara Hopkinson (Myles), Randa Gibson (Mark) and preceded in death by her sister and brother Pamela “Sue” Hamilton (Floyd) and Palmer “Bud” Berg.
Sharon was also very close to her in-laws, Bill and Ardys Scheller, Tom and Linda Dixon and Jan Blanchard.
The family is especially grateful for the amazing group at DaVita Dialysis who provided Sharon with such great care and were a second family to her. A memorial service will be held at Floral Hall in Forest Park on Sunday, October 17 at 11 AM.
