No injuries were reported in a blaze Saturday night that began in the bathroom of a Clinton home.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS responded to a Cultus Bay Road residence around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 8, according to Public Information Officer Jon Gabelein.

The damage was contained to a basement bathroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour. After smoke was vented out of the structure, the residents were able to return to their home that night.

Gabelein credited a working smoke detector for helping to save the lives of the home’s occupants, who were able to safely evacuate the building.
