Repair of marina launch ramp float delayed

Published 1:30 am Tuesday, July 5, 2022

The repair and reinstallation of the launch ramp float at Oak Harbor’s marina has been delayed.

City staff at the marina and the public works engineering divisions had planned to complete the reinstallation by the start of crabbing season on July 1 of this year. However, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources requires the city to use particular plastic material instead of wood for the repairs.

Supply issues for these particular materials are delaying the completion of repairs. Therefore, there is no estimated date of when the float will be repaired and reinstalled.

The city will update the community when there is more information to share regarding this project.

The launch ramp, parking lot and rinse-down area are still available. The cost for using the ramp is $10 per day, or you may purchase an annual pass for $100 at the marina office.

Additionally, marina staff is working on setting up an area that launch ramp users can use to pick up and drop off their families and guests. The location is north of the fuel dock, right next to the hoist. The designated pick-up and drop-off areas have bright orange cones to assist boaters in identifying the location. Picking up and dropping off is not permitted at the fuel dock.

The Oak Harbor Marina includes 420 slips with 230 open and 122 covered permanent slips, ample guest moorage, limited side-tie moorage, and 96 dry storage sheds. The marina has many additional amenities, including showers, restrooms, laundry room, ice machine, picnic tables, playground, waste oil bins, and recycle bins. Additionally, the marina is one mile from most retail services, including motels, restaurants, and shops in downtown Oak Harbor. Learn more at www.ohmarina.org/marina.
