Letter: Inconvenient, perhaps, but Gore spoke the truth

Editor,

Only 15 years ago Al Gore warned us about consequences from our planet’s warming. He was mocked as being a babbling baboon.

Critics claimed that such climate changes occur naturally over time irrespective of human activity. Geological investigations going back millions of years were shown as proof.

But look at what’s changed in only 15 years. In places usually considered safe havens, towns are becoming ashen graveyards in moments of time. Still there are those trying to throw caution to the wind.

Al Gore’s presentation also took a look at global population figures and the exponential way it increases.

Who can argue against the way every environmental problem is caused by the massive population increase?

Oh oh, now we have an issue no one wants to even talk about. But then why should we? Those things get taken care of naturally, don’t they?

When I was just a brat kid world population was so low there were huge unexplored parts of our planet. Explorers like David Livingston were civilization’s heroes. Pollution issues were being resolved by automobiles that didn’t leave manure on the streets.

Now every inch of the planet is scrutinized by satellite spies-in-the-sky and world population has more than tripled.

The changes in just one lifetime have become exponential too.

Historically, population controls have been famines, pestilence and wars.

COVID looks like just a start. Famines silently have hoards of people storming the borders of advanced nations like ours.

And wars?

Who knows what sneaky schemes are afoot?

Shouldn’t a “superior civilization” be able to come up with something better?
